RES Lisbon Residency

As part of a summer residency with RES Lisbon, Rhys Viorr developed a new body of work using found tiles collected from different places around Portugal, alongside a number of smaller paintings and a larger work made during the residency.

At the end of the residency, Viorr was given the opportunity to exhibit the work within the Encarnaceo Ruins, bringing the paintings and found materials into direct conversation with the place they had been made in.

Following the first exhibition, the larger painting was cut into strips and stitched back together, allowing the work to physically move through a process of being taken apart and rebuilt. The marks of this process were left visible as part of the finished work.
